Kieran Peoples, CPDT-KA (They/Them)

My passion lies not only in helping pets, but also in helping people. There is a lot of guilt and pain in the shelter world for both people and animals. I've seen many dogs brought to the shelter by heartbroken owners that feel they don't have access to resources or don't know where to go for help. Most people do not want to give up their pets- most people feel that they have no other option. Over the years, it became obvious to me how interconnected animal suffering was with human suffering. I want to help families figure out how to stay together. I want to prevent a potential shelter dog from ever getting to the point of surrender in the first place. and I want to make the process as painless as possible (literally and figuratively) for the whole household.

I can't wait to help you and your pets thrive together.

I've always loved animals, but I didn't always think I would be working with them. I graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2016 with a degree in anthropology and still no idea what I wanted to do for my career. I leaned into pet sitting (something I had been doing through college), I got a part time job waiting tables at a restaurant, and I took another at an animal shelter. I was hoping to make some money while I decided what direction I was going to go with my life, but I very quickly realized that what I wanted was to help animals.

I now have over a decade of experience in animal care, training, and behavior through my own pet care work and positions with the Cleveland APL, Friendship APL, and Geauga Rescue Village. Working in shelters has given me the chance to learn hands-on in a broad range of medical and behavioral areas. I have sought out numerous professional educational opportunities to further my learning and am currently a Certified Professional Dog Trainer. While much of my professional work has been with dogs, I have also spent a great deal of time with cats and love them just as much.
